After the great success of Mr. Sax T, we were asked by our customers to extend the Sax family. Here are two brand new brothers, Mr. Sax A., and Mr. Sax B., exploiting the same technology, but based on completely new sample material, with a lot of new added features.

Yes, the male members of the saxophone family.
Miss Sax S (the soprano) is presently under evaluation for feasibility.

What’s new in Mr. Sax A, B & T ?
The Alto and Baritone Sax are completely new instruments, designed and programmed for the new NI Kontakt 3.5 Player. The current version is 1.51.

As in Mr. Sax T, v. 1.02, the main panel allows for monitoring and inputting control data. It includes a drop down menu for Keyboard, Breathcontroller, Yamaha and Akai windcontroller input, symmetrical and asymmetrical pitchbend response, velocity or CC controlled portamento time, etc.

Automatic recognition of the audio card sample rate has been implemented, thus obviating the need of manually setting the corresponding value on the instrument GUI.

Channel aftertouch is now recognized and can be used to control several parameters, such as vibrato intensity or rate, subharmonic, growl or flutter intensity. A user defined smoothing parameter helps reduce any sudden jump of the less-than-optimal aftertouch response of several keyboards.

In addition, MIDI remapping of incoming CCs is now possible, by a dedicated GUI (see below).

And Mr. Sax T?

Like the trumpet, the trombone is one of the most versatile, dynamic, flexible and expressive musical instruments. It covers an incredibly wide range of sounds and moods. Whether a classical sacred work, a military march or a powerful fanfare, a pop song or a huge orchestral arrangement - the trombone is an indispensable instrument in a vast majority of musical styles. However, it’s extremely difficult to emulate, even more than the trumpet, due to the presence of the slide - a true challenge for developers of virtual instruments. That’s why we chose it next.

Instrument technology

The Trombone family expands Samplemodeling™ technologies beyond the original limits. An entirely new class of Harmonic Alignment has been developed, allowing continuous transition across virtually infinite dynamics, at the same time perfectly preserving the peculiar, “spiky” waveform of this instrument. Multi-microphone anechoic recording, coupled to a specially devised “early reflections” impulse response, allowed to reproduce the full, rich timbre of the instrument including its radiation pattern, adding at same time a virtual space to the anechoic sound.

The base material of the instruments (two Tenor, one Valve and one Bass Trombone) consists of 714 MB of samples, chromatically performed by a professional trombone player over a very wide dynamic range. All samples are unlooped, and have a minimum duration of 8 sec. As “The Trumpet”, the Trombone engine is structured according to an adaptive model, based on the performance “fingerprints” of the real instrument. The purpose of the model is to minimize the differences between the real phrases and those played by the virtual instrument.

Proprietary modal resonance IRs, innovative techniques for sample modulation, and advanced AI midi processing are used for real time construction of all articulations and morphing across dynamics, vibrato, legato, portamento, trills, vibrato-like endings, shakes and so forth.

Pseudo-random detuning, based on real performance-derived trends, is another outstanding new feature of The Trombone, adding further realism.

A completely new chapter concerns the slide. The real trombone is one of the few wind instruments that can produce a true glissando up to six semitones. Though very difficult to obtain with a sample-based instrument, the effect of the slide has been perfectly reproduced in our virtual trombone by a novel application of the “Harmonic Alignment” technology. Ultra-realistic slide effects can be obtained by proper use of the pitchbend, but are also automatically activated by overlapped legato. As in the real instrument, a continuous glissando effect will be obtained if the portamento interval is within +/- 3 semitones.

This heavyweight compilation rocks on the dancefloor, however we did not focused on re-creating the overused "hard-trance"-like sounds, instead we made sampler presets that matches of descriptive attributes, like "sizzling, warm, sharp, nasal, fat, emotional". Its dense and evolving esoteric layered landscapes makes this compliation also suitable for film and post-production works, but its primary usage is for music production in trance, dance, pop, house, techno, electro, psy, ambient etc. genres.
"CLUB LIFE" is a set of multisamples of our custom sounds for the Clavia Nord Modular G2 synthesizer. Clavia Nord Modular G2 is the ultimate synthesizer for creating unique synthesizer sounds. From the original classic analog sounds to any bizarre "sci-fi" drone texture the G2 offers a number of previously unavailable sonic opportunities. Despite its bizarre complexity this instrument is the "secret weapon" of several famous top producers' and musicians' technical arsenal around the world.


The sound designers of Wavescapes Studio spent lots of time just for creating G2 sounds that really works, then recorded and processed these sounds as multisamples in 24 bit format. Sampler presets are carefully keymapped, programmed and fine-tuned using all relevant KONTAKT 2 parameters (including DCA, DCF, LFO, modulation matrix, glide, etc.) manually. Realtime control possibilites are also added: just move the modulation wheel to change several parameters in real-time in order to make sound “breathe”!
Sampler presets in this pack went through a multiple selection process, so 113 real club sounds were selected from many hundreds. Some of them contain massive layers creating really FAT sounds - just check the XTRA category! We categorized each presets into ARP, BASS, LEAD, PAD, XTRA categories for easier identification while looking for the right sound for your song in the making. Finally we compiled the sounds into a single KONTAKT 2 Bank format (*.nkb) file, so you do not have to worry about missing samples anymore.

PRE-BASS is derived from the acclaimed Scarbee Blue Bass library, and the first release in the recently established development partnership between sampling expert Thomas Hansen Skarbye and Native Instruments.

Powered by the industry-leading KONTAKT engine and playable via the free KONTAKT PLAYER or the KONTAKT 3 sampler, SCARBEE PREBASS delivers the full sonic spectrum of the most popular bass guitar of all time, suitable for a universal array of musical styles from pop and rock to hip-hop, jazz, funk and beyond. All four strings of the original instrument have been expertly sampled in nine velocities, resulting in over 4,000 individual studio-grade samples. The sample material was recorded through a DI for maximum sonic flexibility, using round-wound strings for a bright and punchy sound. Specific “Player Profiles” for various genres as well as EQ and effect controls allow musicians and producer to further customize the sound and behavior of PRE-BASS to fit the musical context.

To preserve all the acoustic intricacies of the real instrument, PRE-BASS takes full advantage of the unique scripting features of KONTAKT, resulting in a performance that is virtually indistinguishable from that of a real professional bassist. Authentic articulations and playing techniques include hammer-ons, pull-offs, grace notes, various trills, mutes, harmonics, pickup hits and fret noises and much more, most of which are automatically triggered based on the incoming note material. The fretboard display in KONTAKT and KONTAKT PLAYER shows the playing position and articulation of each note in real-time, with intelligent string selection and index finger/middle finger alternation as well as dedicated slide and chord modes contributing to the unparalleled authenticity of the instrument.

Scarbee Pre-Bass features

* Real-time playable – with the exception of cross hammering and trills all of the articulations in the list given further below can be triggered without the need for any keyswitches. Eg. Hammer-on & pull-offs are triggered by legato playing and fast grace notes by fast legato playing.
* A powerful user interface pushing the Kontakt user interface to its limits: a fretboard display gives an overview of the playing position and for each string what fret and articulation (displayed as a unique symbol) that are used & dynamically updated as you play.
* All four strings sampled, more than 4 000 samples and up to 9 velocity layers to capture the full timbre of the bass.
* Each string is monophonic so new notes abort earlier notes, giving a perfectly realistic bass.
* Automatic string selection – play and the script selects the most suitable string for you. Use keyswitches to limit the string choice or to move the active playing position (placement of left hand). The automatic string selection is tailor-made to work well with every articulation.
* Automatic alternation of right hand index and middle finger samples (can also be controlled using keyswitches).
* Convenient keyswitch mode – a keyswitch affects the following note or remains active as long as it’s pressed – making it easy to quickly return to the default mode of operation.
* Slide mode – play a note legato while holding the sustain pedal pressed to trigger a slide. The velocity will determine a slide speed anywhere between 60 to 480 bpm. Slides use real interval transitions sampled in three different speeds for realism and employ a new technique invented by Skarbye/Liberg to significantly reduce RAM usage. Slides are available for every interval up to an octave down and up from the current note. It’s possible to play multiple slides consecutively to go up and then down.
* Chord mode – makes it possible for notes to be automatically assigned to the right strings even if the notes of a chord don’t arrive exactly at the same time.
* Control over release samples – random alternation between more or less tight (how quickly they are dampened) release samples where the proportion of each can be controlled by the user. Select a default release type and use a keyswitch to toggle between the default behaviour and the other type.
* Pickup-hits – randomly inserted where they are most likely to occur in real-life playing. The user can set the probability of a pickup-hit to occur.
* The sound of Mr. Scarbee’s own fingers.
* Bass recorded DI to give you maximum flexibility in the sound production.
* EQ and Effect Presets – direct in the instrument user interface.
* Integrated documentation for all settings – direct in the instrument user interface.

PRE-BASS is derived from the acclaimed Scarbee Blue Bass library, and the first release in the recently established development partnership between sampling expert Thomas Hansen Skarbye and Native Instruments.

Powered by the industry-leading KONTAKT engine and playable via the free KONTAKT PLAYER or the KONTAKT 3 sampler, SCARBEE PREBASS delivers the full sonic spectrum of the most popular bass guitar of all time, suitable for a universal array of musical styles from pop and rock to hip-hop, jazz, funk and beyond. All four strings of the original instrument have been expertly sampled in nine velocities, resulting in over 4,000 individual studio-grade samples. The sample material was recorded through a DI for maximum sonic flexibility, using round-wound strings for a bright and punchy sound. Specific “Player Profiles” for various genres as well as EQ and effect controls allow musicians and producer to further customize the sound and behavior of PRE-BASS to fit the musical context.

To preserve all the acoustic intricacies of the real instrument, PRE-BASS takes full advantage of the unique scripting features of KONTAKT, resulting in a performance that is virtually indistinguishable from that of a real professional bassist. Authentic articulations and playing techniques include hammer-ons, pull-offs, grace notes, various trills, mutes, harmonics, pickup hits and fret noises and much more, most of which are automatically triggered based on the incoming note material. The fretboard display in KONTAKT and KONTAKT PLAYER shows the playing position and articulation of each note in real-time, with intelligent string selection and index finger/middle finger alternation as well as dedicated slide and chord modes contributing to the unparalleled authenticity of the instrument.

Scarbee Pre-Bass features

* Real-time playable – with the exception of cross hammering and trills all of the articulations in the list given further below can be triggered without the need for any keyswitches. Eg. Hammer-on & pull-offs are triggered by legato playing and fast grace notes by fast legato playing.
* A powerful user interface pushing the Kontakt user interface to its limits: a fretboard display gives an overview of the playing position and for each string what fret and articulation (displayed as a unique symbol) that are used & dynamically updated as you play.
* All four strings sampled, more than 4 000 samples and up to 9 velocity layers to capture the full timbre of the bass.
* Each string is monophonic so new notes abort earlier notes, giving a perfectly realistic bass.
* Automatic string selection – play and the script selects the most suitable string for you. Use keyswitches to limit the string choice or to move the active playing position (placement of left hand). The automatic string selection is tailor-made to work well with every articulation.
* Automatic alternation of right hand index and middle finger samples (can also be controlled using keyswitches).
* Convenient keyswitch mode – a keyswitch affects the following note or remains active as long as it’s pressed – making it easy to quickly return to the default mode of operation.
* Slide mode – play a note legato while holding the sustain pedal pressed to trigger a slide. The velocity will determine a slide speed anywhere between 60 to 480 bpm. Slides use real interval transitions sampled in three different speeds for realism and employ a new technique invented by Skarbye/Liberg to significantly reduce RAM usage. Slides are available for every interval up to an octave down and up from the current note. It’s possible to play multiple slides consecutively to go up and then down.
* Chord mode – makes it possible for notes to be automatically assigned to the right strings even if the notes of a chord don’t arrive exactly at the same time.
* Control over release samples – random alternation between more or less tight (how quickly they are dampened) release samples where the proportion of each can be controlled by the user. Select a default release type and use a keyswitch to toggle between the default behaviour and the other type.
* Pickup-hits – randomly inserted where they are most likely to occur in real-life playing. The user can set the probability of a pickup-hit to occur.

* Bass recorded DI to give you maximum flexibility in the sound production.
* EQ and Effect Presets – direct in the instrument user interface.
